I recently attempted to use AI tools like ChatGPT and DALL-E to reverse-engineer a style guide for new clients by analyzing their website, PDFs, and existing videos. The task? Extract their color palette (with hex values), typestyles (headers, subheaders, text, and subtext), shapes, and background elements—plus generate a vector version of their logo.
Spoiler alert: AI fell short in some areas. The hex colors were wrong, the typestyles missed the mark, and I couldn’t extract a usable vector logo. It also struggled to identify the shapes and background styles used consistently in their design.
That said, I did have some success! ChatGPT recommended a helpful YouTube tutorial, “How to Identify Any Website’s Fonts, Colours & Image Sizes” https://lnkd.in/ekk-AJyW which introduces some amazing Chrome browser tricks for identifying fonts and colors. I was also introduced to impressive code from AI for Work, which generates a new style guide using a series of prompts and questions. Even with these tools, I still ended up manually creating a style guide as part of a case study for a non-profit organization. While I’m proud of the result, I can’t help but wonder: Can AI really handle this task?
To help this group take on the challenge, I’m providing a screen grab of my Photoshop document as an example of what I’m trying to get AI to create. Happy to share the full document upon request!
Can you use AI tools to successfully create an accurate style guide from a client’s assets, including colors, fonts, shapes, backgrounds, and logos? Share your tips, methods, or examples—I’m eager to learn what’s possible!
I’ll give a shoutout to the person who cracks this challenge or shares the best insight to take my workflow to the next level.
Here’s the version I completed manually (see graphic included)—I’ll be using it as a starting point for future video content.
